097 Al-Qadr

This is a Makki Surah and is named after the Night of Decree, in which the Qur’an was revealed.

Jibreel (AS) brought the Qur’an from the Lauhe Mahfooz, the Sealed Tablet, which is under the Throne of Allaah (SWT) above the seven heavens. He brought it till the last heaven above the earth on the Night of Decree, and from there the Qur’an was revealed in parts over twenty-three years to the Prophet ﷺ. The first revelation was also in Ramadan.

Worship in the Night of Decree is deemed to be better than a thousand months, as Jibreel (AS) and other angels descend on this night every year. And believers will find tranquility on this night until the time of dawn.
